Fairtrade
And why I love their mission
I’ve shared this before on SFM and I know I’ll share it again. My foundational belief is that a rising tide lifts all boats. I truly believe that when one person uses their success to uplift others, it can only create positive outcomes. This is why I was so excited to partner with Fairtrade. Their entire mission stems from a belief in this ripple effect.
A little bit about me: I grew up in a fairly affluent community. I didn’t come from affluence, but it was all around me - the kind of place where everything always feels available, always within reach. I never really stopped to think about how those things got to me or who made them possible.
It wasn’t until I started teaching in a Title 1 school that my perspective shifted. I began to see, up close, how different people’s realities could be. That time changed me. It made me care deeply about fairness, access, and the idea that we’re all connected. I truly believe one person’s success should ripple outward- there’s more than enough for everyone.
That’s one of the reasons I love Fairtrade. At its core, Fairtrade is about partnership instead of exploitation. It’s about working towards a world where the people who grow and produce the things we love are treated fairly and can build better lives for their families. When farmers and workers are supported, it lifts entire communities.
And here’s the fun part: Fairtrade isn’t just a niche thing. There are over 37,000 Fairtrade-certified products out there! Once you start looking for the little green-and-blue Fairtrade mark, you’ll spot it everywhere. You might even already have a few in your pantry or freezer.
If you want to start supporting Fairtrade, it doesn’t have to be a total overhaul. Just make one swap — like choosing Ben & Jerry’s ice cream or a Hu Kitchen chocolate bar. Small choices add up, and our dollars really do tell a story about what (and who) we value.
And if you are curious about Fairtrade, be sure to head to their website to learn more and enter the HUGE giveaway they are hosting this month! You could win new cooking equipment, cookbooks, and a years supply of some of my favorite snacks- including Hu Kitchen chocolate bars.
